Appliance Serial Decoder

This policy describes the rebuilt, ad-free Appliance Serial Decoder app provided by Mike Luster / Kyairs Software. Contact: kyairs@yahoo.com.

Information you enter and save

The app uses the appliance manufacturer, type, model number, serial or FD number, and an optional known-before or service date to estimate manufacture dates and display service information. You do not need to create a user account.

If you choose to save lookup history, model and serial numbers, results, and lookup dates are stored on your device. The app keeps up to 100 saved lookups. You can delete individual entries in History or use Settings → Clear saved data. Turning off Save lookup history stops new entries from being saved; it does not delete existing entries.

Online enhancement

Online enhancement is enabled by default and can be turned off in Settings. When enabled and a local decode succeeds, the app sends the appliance manufacturer, type, model and serial number, local decode information, and app version over HTTPS to our service at api.kyairs.com to retrieve model information, error codes, and diagnostic procedures. Built-in decoding remains available offline. Testing the cloud connection in Settings also contacts this service.

The current lookup endpoint processes these requests without saving the submitted model and full serial number as a lookup-history database record. Network and security infrastructure also processes connection information such as IP address, request time, endpoint, and response status. Avoid entering customer names, addresses, or other personal information in the appliance fields.

Installation and security records

For cloud access, the app generates a random installation identifier and stores it and an access token on your device. This identifier is not your phone's hardware serial number or advertising ID. Our server stores the installation identifier, a hash of the token, platform, app version, timestamps, activity status, and request counts to authenticate requests and prevent abuse.

Registration rate limiting uses a keyed hash derived from the connection IP address. The current API removes registration-attempt records older than one day during subsequent registration requests. Hosting and network-security providers may maintain separate operational logs.

Service providers, advertising, and purchases

Our cloud infrastructure uses Hostinger for hosting and Cloudflare for network delivery and security. They process data needed to provide these services. We do not sell app data or use the app's installation identifier for advertising. This rebuilt app contains no advertising or third-party advertising or analytics SDKs.

Google Play handles purchase and payment information under Google's policies. The app does not ask for or receive your payment-card details. External manufacturer and service-document links are governed by the privacy policies of the sites you visit.

Permissions

This version provides manual model and serial entry and does not offer camera scanning. It does not request camera, microphone, location, contacts, or broad photo-library permissions. It uses internet access for cloud features and external links.

Retention and deletion

Saved lookup history remains on your device until you delete it, clear the app's storage, or it is replaced by newer entries after the history limit is reached. Installation credentials and settings are separate from lookup history and are not removed by Clear saved data. Clearing the app's storage removes the local app data; it does not automatically delete server-side records.

We retain installation and operational security records for service operation, abuse prevention, and troubleshooting, and remove them when no longer needed, subject to legal or security requirements. To request deletion of server-side installation records or ask about retention, email kyairs@yahoo.com with the installation ID shown in Settings. Do not send your access token. We may need additional information to identify records associated with your request. Hosting logs or backups may remain for their operational retention periods.

Security and policy changes

Cloud requests use HTTPS, and server access tokens are stored as hashes. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure. We will post policy revisions at the online policy address and update the effective date. Contact kyairs@yahoo.com with questions about this policy.
